The Patio Details Explained

It is no secret that the patio has easily become my favorite hangout spot after a long day. Every detail that went into making this space the vibe it is, was well thought out. Let’s break it down shall we.

I absolutely love this sectional. I wanted something that was able to clean with ease, comfortable, and a neutral pallete. This West Elm sectional checked all of the wants. It is the perfect size as to not overpower the living portion of the patio.

I like layers, texture, and patterns, so the 3 pillows that adorn the sectional gives just the right mount of layers and textures that was needed to elevate the sectional. I layered the 3 pillows on one side to bring some visual interest to the simple sectional and placed the pattern pillow on the other side to add a pattern to that side of the sectional.

In an effort to use the patio the entire year, I purchased this Target black fire pit. It is currently used to sit a drink on it, so it’s easy to use as a table. However, in the fall/winter, the fire will keep us warm.

The two black wooden chairs added another texture with it’s yarn weaving and pattern. They are super comfortable with enough space for your back and buttocks. Not only is it great to sit in, it is also nice to simply touch it.

This concrete drum side table was purchased last summer when I did the mini refresh. It is the perfect place to place a drink, book, or a plant on. It adds yet another texture for this outdoor space. It also adds something visual to look at because it isn’t a regular shaped table and it adds contrast in color against the black chair.

The black hanging planters gives visual interest as well with its size and shape. The way the black and oversize element pops off of the concrete wall which makes for an interesting display. It’s the artwork for this area.

Let’s talk about these beautiful hanging shades. I did 3 in the living side of the patio and recently updated this dining side to 5. Remember odd number for groupings are always the best. It makes the eye roam around more which is a lovely visual experience. Your eyes are automatically drawn to the groupings. When you add in the different sizes, natural tones, and shapes of the different shades, it makes for a well thought out pairing. It is an easy way to give that layered effect. They were intentionally placed at various heights which is an easy way to create that layered effect. Additionally, it is beautiful display and art.

I’m so glad that I went with this Wilson Acacia Wood Outdoor Dining table. If you guys remember, I originally ordered a West Elm table but it wasn’t going to make it here until October, and I wanted to enjoy my outdoor space this summer. That forced me to go on a hunt in-stock outdoor wood dining table. I was so excited when I located this one on Overstock. It was a third of the price of the West Elm table which also excited me. I wasn’t 100% sold on it just because I loved the West Elm one so much. However, when this one was delivered, I knew immediately it was going to be hard to part with it if I decided to wait those agonizing 3 months for the original table. The two tables were very similar in size and richness of the wood. The biggest difference was the direction of the slats on the table, but once I got it set up on the patio I was sold. I immediately canceled the one from West Elm. I’m so glad that I did.

The only accessory this table needed was a white teak bowl to instantly draw your eye to the dining area. It is the perfect contrast against the rich acacia wood tone.

As an adult what is a patio without a bar. It is non-existent for me. I wanted to have libations easily available for those days that I just want to chill out on the patio as well as when my guests came to hang out. The colorful bottles give the perfect color combination for summer against the black glass bar cart that I picked up last summer.

A bowl with limes and mint readily available are ideal to have handy when making cocktails all while chilling outdoors. The wooden bowl and the concrete planters add the texture that was needed for this simple bar cart.

What is an outdoor space without plants, so the last part of this patio makeover was adding various plants to the space. I only used terra cotta pots, and and a few black ones. This added cohesiveness to the patio as well as adding another layer because they were grouped with various sizes and heights. The greenery against the terra cotta and the vining plants that cascades down the planters makes it feel that they were organically growing in this space.

Lastly, the two benches were needed for additional seating plus places to rest additional plants on it. We can easily sit about 17 to 18 people outside.
