Heyyy friends!! So let’s spend some time talking about decorating with pillows. Pillows can be added to your space to add depth and warmth to your space. They come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. They have varied textures, patterns, and fabrics. So if you have a couch or chair that is simply missing something, try finding some decorative pillows that will compliment it.

Pillows can also be used to place on the floor for when guests come over for extra seating. You can place these extra pillows in stacks or in a large basket for easy accessibility.

Pillows are used to add dimension to a bed, but don’t overdue the number of pillows you place on your bed. Pillows enhance the look of your bed, but remember, your home is not a department store. You don’t need to make your bed look like Macy’s.

Pillows should be layered from largest to smallest. For example, you can place two 24’ x 24’ pillows in front of your sleeping pillows and then add one 12’ x 24’ lumbar pillow. The number of accent pillows should range from 1-5 depending on the scale of the pillow and size of the bed. Don’t overdue the number of pillows that you use to style your bed.

When you need to add layers and dimensions to your space, invest in some decorative pillows. The furniture pieces and the colors of the room will determine the pillows that you purchase. You don’t want your space to be one dimension. Pillows will definitely help with adding varing heights and widths to your furniture pieces. It will take something that’s boring and give it some character. Don’t be afraid to mix textures or patterns. Don’t be afraid to mix colors. You may purchase a black and white pillow and add a pink pillow to the mix. You may have a faux leather pillow and add a faux fur lumbar pillow.

When you place your pillows on the bed, arrange it in this way:

1st row: place your two sleeping pillows and pillows with the shams (I prefer if they are laying down versus prompt up and stacked on top of each other)

2nd row: place two decorative square pillows

3rd row: place a lumbar or bolster pillow in front

One additional tip: If you need to purchase an insert, I suggest going up one size from the pillow. This will add the extra fluffiness and fill out the pillow more. Here are a few sources and pillows to help you beautify your space.

These pillows are from l to r: CB2, Stud Pillows, Etsy, Wayfair, and Society 6.
