Falling Out of Summer

Hey friends!!! I know it has been a minute since I have written a blog post. Well, here I am jumping back into blogging.

Summer time is for hanging with friends, having family over for a bar-be-cue, outside dining, concerts, and more. Well this summer we weren’t able to do the above list like we have in the past. Due to the pandemic, it was important for me to refresh my patio space so that we could get outside and enjoy what was left of the summer. Before we go any further, here is my patio mood board.

I love how everything came together. I inherited the black metal table from my aunt many years ago, and each year it only needs two cans of Matte black spray paint that I always pick up from Home Depot. The chairs are very comfortable and rocks which makes them nice to sit in for long periods of time. The black patio umbrella was ordered from Amazon on last year, and we preserved it by bringing it in during heavy rain and during the winter months. I don’t want to have to always purchase news accessories for these spaces each year, so preserving the pieces I love most is key for me. The umbrella was a must in this space due to the heat that this space takes in. I originally purchased some outdoor pillows from Home Depot, but when I saw these cream, black, and mustard ones from World Market, I just had to have them. The pillows set the stage for everything else. I’m glad that I purchased these when I did, because they sold out right after. I kept my existing Target outdoor rug from last year, because I knew it would be the perfect anchor for the space. Additionally, I knew I wanted some wood elements in this space. Black and natural elements pair so well together, so it was a no brainer for me to infuse some items onto the patio

Since this table only seats 4 people, I knew I needed a couple of additional seating areas. This is where my natural pieces would come into play. I wanted a bench in this space for sitting and to hold some outdoor plants. I purchased ours from Wayfair. It was as simple as a couple of screws to the based, and it was done. I also purchased a wooden ottoman from Home Goods. Now we easily have seating for 6 if not 7.

Since we are talking about refreshing an outdoor space, plants had to be part of the makeover. I hit up my favorite Home Depot and Lowe’s to find plants that thrive in full sun, because that’s all you going to get on this side of my house. I purchased several plants such as Sweet Potato Vine, some succulents, Majesty Palm, Citronella Plant, and a Kumquat tree. I also picked up a few black planters to go with the terracotta planters that I already currently owned. I ordered a couple of decorative ones from Anthropologie to complete the look.

Finally, I had to have an outdoor bar. I wanted to be able to grab a cold beverage while sitting outside enjoying my friends or simply hanging by myself. I ordered a black glass bar cart and picked up all my favorite libations and water to complete the bar. I also purchased an extra table in case my guest wanted to sit their drink on or to place a book. I styled this side table with coffee table books and this beautiful necklace from Tierrdellagarto. When the weather is bad outside, the bar is brought into the house. Again, we are trying to preserve our items for some time.

We are planning to get the patio stretched so that we can have a lounging area as well. Hopefully that comes sooner than later. We will definitely continue to enjoy this space well into the fall when the leaves start to fall and change colors. I can’t wait to continue to add to our outdoor space. I hope you create a space that you can retreat to especially during these challenging times.

Thank you all for following along and please stay tuned for more.
