What Art Means to Me
We all know art speaks differently to every person that comes in contact with it. It can invoke a myriad of emotions and feelings. What one person loves, someone else may hate. Art is very personal. So whether you are buying art for the firs time or you are a collector, the art should be a piece that is timeless and means something to you.
I like to think that I have a vast art collection. Some of my pieces are original, some are limited edition prints, and some are posters or notecards. Some of my art was gifted to me, and others were purchased.
Every piece that I own, I would buy again and again. They are pieces that truly have meaning to me whether its the subject matter, the colors, and movement of the images, the movement of the paint colors, the emotions I feel when looking at the piece, or what it represents.
My art brings value to me and my home. Here are a few of my absolute favorite pieces.
These two Gee Horton prints are my newest additions, and they were a must when I started my kitchen refresh. They literally stopped me in my tracks when I first saw them. I can’t even image the kitchen refresh without these two prints. They are not a normal size so I did have to get them custom framed, but it was so worth it. They are perfect in this spot next to the white cabinets and black knobs. It just makes me think of my family and ancestors.
This piece by my new friend Ronnie is a new piece as well. I love that I was able to customize this piece for our home. I simply told Ronnie the look I was going for and the color scheme. It blew me away when I saw the finished product. I love things with texture and this painting added just what I was needing. It adorns this wall beautifully. I’m glad its the first thing my guest can see as they enter my home.
Danny is a dear friend of mine and an extraordinary artist. These 3 pieces are by him, and the rich colors in these original pieces makes me smile whenever I look at them. They pop beautifully off this black wall. I couldn’t have a home without some of Danny’s artwork. It definitely was a must, and these are only 3 of the 6 pieces that I own by Danny.
These two paintings are by an artist that I found on Instagram that goes by the name Quelly Rue. These original paintings spoke to me when I was perusing her page. I didn’t pull the trigger for a while but I often would think of them. I know that if I keep thinking of something, then I need to go ahead and get it. I’m so glad that I did, they are simply beautiful. I like to use artwork to infuse color in my home, and these two paintings do not disappoint at all. They are both of black women with ties to their heritage which I can identify with, and I love that they have objects within the paintings.
I really could go on and on about my art collection, but I will stop with these favorites of mine. I hope that you are finding art that you will love for a lifetime.
Thank you all for following along and please stay tuned for more.
